Education and Adoption

Our Programs

We can customize our program to the size of your group and the ages of the participants.  We also bring our program to your place of meeting.  Due to the hands-on nature of our presentation, smaller groups work best (less than 30 participants at a time).  We can also adjust the length of the presentation, depending on how many animals you would like to visit your group and /or how much time your group has.  Note: due to the nervous nature of a few of the animals, these will not come to younger groups and others may not be handled, but most are fair game.  Please contact us to set up an appointment for a visit, or to work out the details of your customized presentation.  We don't just limit our traveling to Vigo County, but we do ask for gas compensation for travels outside our home county.  Remember, this educational service is free, but your donations will help keep this program going and allow us to provide homes for rescued animals.

Birthday Parties

We will do programs at birthday parties; however, the program is not donation based like the programs conducted at schools and other organizations.  Birthday Parties are $75.00 an hour and we choose which animals attend. We will offer pictures to the guests for $3 each, and the birthday boy or girl will get up to two pictures for free.  It is the parents' responsibility to make sure that the guests are well-behaved in order to avoid putting undue stress on our animals.  If we determine that the party is putting too much stress on the animals and are forced to leave, there will be no refund. The program provided for birthdays is still an educational experience, not entertainment.  Parties need to be booked at least 3 weeks in advance.  As with other programs, if outside of Vigo County, mileage will be determined and compensated.  Please contact us for booking or more information.

Fear-Beating Program

Through brainstorming sessions and recent communications with the public, we have decided to offer a program directly focused on getting rid of your fear of snakes, and reptiles for that matter.  Now that being said, if you or someone you know is afraid of reptiles (herpaphobic) or just snakes (ophidiophobic), we may be able to help.  If you just don't like snakes or are scared of snakes, we suggest facing your fear.  You can do this by scheduling a Fear-Beating Program. The FBP consists of several small programs that start out with no live animals, just a table discussion.  Depending on how your response is to the discussion, we will decide how slow/fast we can move through the program.

EXAMPLE: The second session begins with small animals kept behind lock and key,  the third the animal comes out the cage, and finally the size of the animal increases as long as you are comfortable.

We will not push you in any unsafe manner, and we will stop at any time you wish.

A GREAT EXAMPLE:

Dr. Jerry Mansfield, the former director of Terre Haute Children's Museum, was afraid of snakes and wanted nothing to do with them.  One day he got up the courage and started with some of our smaller snakes, then he gradually worked up to Annie.  Jerry fell in love with Annie and had to have a picture with her whenever she was present at our program.
